NEWSFLASH | Tshwane emergency services currently attending to attempted suicide at Sunnyside gym

The department said the man was suspected to be under the influence of narcotics

The Tshwane Emergency Services Department (ESD) is attending to an ongoing situation where a naked man atop the roof of a local gym was threatening suicide.

Deputy-chief Charles Mabaso said that the man was suspected to be under the influence of narcotics and threatening to stab himself with a broken bottle if anyone camw close to him.

“An active incident of a suicide attempt is underway at the Virgin Active in Robert Sabukwe street.

“Tshwane Emergency Services resources Engine 12 and Ladder 12 are on the scene”, said Mabaso.

“It is currently reported that the man is alleged to be under the influence of narcotics, and is threatening to stab himself with a broken bottle atop the building.

“On arrival, the SAPS were waiting for a suicide negotiator, who is now on scene.”
