Police searching for man swept away by Apies River

The local police diving unit was dispatched to the scene to search for the man who was swept into the river on Thursday afternoon.

Police and Tshwane emergency services are searching for a man who was swept away by the Apies River near the Pretoria Zoo on Thursday afternoon at around 13:00.

“The Tshwane emergency services were activated and a search was conducted for the man,” said Tshwane EMS spokesperson Charles Mabaso.

“Unfortunately, we could not find the man because it got too dark and the search was then handed over to the police.”

On Friday, the EMS team met with the police diving unit to continue their search for the man.

Warrant Officer Frans Spang from the police diving unit said they searched until 19:00 on Thursday and continued their search on Friday morning with the help of the K9 unit and the EMS.
