Search continues for missing infant, snatcher – four months on

The suspect allegedly asked the victim to accompany her to the Tshwane regional mall in Mamelodi as she wanted to buy clothes for her unborn baby.

It has been almost four months since a four-day-old baby boy was snatched from his mother at Tshwane regional mall.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Sam Shibambo said the Mamelodi police are still searching for the missing infant and the snatcher.

“We are continuing with the search for a pregnant woman, dark in complexion, speaking Zimbabwean Tsonga who took the infant.

Nomza Khoza of Nellmapius ext. 24 told police that the woman snatcher vanished with her baby at Tshwane regional mall earlier this year.

Shibambo said the 26-year-old mother was approached by the suspect at Phahameng clinic in Mamelodi East.

“According to the victim, the suspect asked her to accompany the suspect to the Tshwane regional mall in Mamelodi as the suspect wanted to buy clothes for her unborn baby,” said Shibambo.

Khoza said the suspect told her the nurses at the clinic had booked her a bed at Mamelodi hospital where they will be waiting to admit her for delivery in the evening.

“So she desperately needed someone to accompany her to buy newborn clothes either at Denlyn mall or Tshwane regional mall,” said Khoza.

Shibambo added that the two took a taxi to the mall where the suspect asked the mother to find a security guard who could make a Money Market withdrawal for her as she didn’t have an ID.

“The mother left the baby with the suspect and when she returned, the woman and her baby were gone.”

She enlisted the help of mall security to search for the suspect and the baby unsuccessfully.

The suspect was wearing a pair of black leggings, a floral vest, a hat, a black mask and flip-flop shoes.

Shibambo pleaded with the public to help locate the missing baby.
