Tshwane Flying Squad recovers stolen vehicles in Pretoria West

The recoveries support the trend of stolen vehicles being synonymous with Pretoria West.

The Tshwane Flying Squad has recently recovered multiple stolen vehicles in Tshwane, one of which was stolen from the North West.

The charcoal VW Polo in question was reported stolen from Marikana SAPS earlier this month. The Flying Squad was able to locate the vehicle parked next to a house in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West.

In another recovery on April 2 at around 11:00, Flying Squad members arrested a 27-year-old male suspect for being in possession of a stolen white Toyota Hilux valued at R78 000.

“The suspect was spotted to be in possession of the vehicle at Westford Park squatter camp in Pretoria West, he was later detained at the Pretoria West SAPS station,” said Tshwane Flying Squad spokesperson Sargeant Legodi.

The local criminal record centre from Central Pretoria was also called in to process the scene and the vehicle was later taken to the Pretoria West pound.

The third vehicle recovered in Pretoria West was a white Toyota Prado valued at R690 000. Similarly to the VW Polo, the Prado was recovered in Lotus Gardens around Walter Sisulu Street.

The vehicle is reported to have been stolen from Lyttleton, Centurion. After processing, the vehicle was also then transported to the Pretoria West pound.

The recoveries support the trend of stolen vehicles being synonymous with Pretoria West, as the area’s third-quarter crime statistics released earlier this year showed that car hijackings have increased by 40% in the area.

Pretoria West station also fell under the top 30 stations plagued by serious crime.

The suspect arrested is expected to appear in court in due course.

Any residents with any information regarding the stolen vehicles are urged to contact the authorities.
