Tshwane is currently taking steps to deploy water tankers to areas that have been affected by the Rand Water crisis.
Details on where these tankers will be available will be shared with the ward councillors in the affected areas.
Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink met with the councillors whose areas have been affected by the Rand Water maintenance issues that have been compounded by cable theft on one of the lines that power the Rand Water pump station.
“We are in continuous engagement with Rand Water to get credible information about when the problem will be resolved.
“We will also be meeting with the management of Rand Water this week to try and understand the structural issues that led to us experiencing situations like this.”
The most recent information shared by Rand Water was that Eskom had intended to restore the electricity last night.
“Assuming Eskom restores power to Mapleton ideally the booster will start pumping this evening but I must emphasize that multiple reservoirs in the system are depleted.
“Assuming pumping resumes this evening the full restoration of water will take a couple of days,” said the mayor’s spokesperson Sipho Stuurman.
He added that they are doing everything they can to get up-to-date information. Unfortunately, this is delayed as it is relayed via Eskom to Rand Water to Tshwane.
“The moment we have any updates we will share them,” he said.
