Centurion boeremark launches first of many market days

The first event was a success according to organisers, with signs that the market will only grow.

Centurion’s very own Boeremark left many of its stalls selling out by the end of the first of many markets.

The event was described as a success by its organisers with signs that the market will continue to grow from the humble 60 stalls this past Saturday.

Visitors from Pretoria and beyond came to see what Centurionites have to offer.

The market included fresh meat and vegetable producers and local food stalls making traditional classics such as pap and kaaings and melkkos to modern banting treats and freshly made pancakes.

A children’s play area kept the kids busy while their parents could enjoy the various stalls.

Event organisers Christo Potgieter and Ria Moggee were pleased with the turnout for the first event.

Although just under half of the stalls opened, Moggee said that the event met their expectations and that the market would grow in the next few weeks.

“This is a community event; people have lost their jobs, pensioners are struggling and inflation is up and up.

“We keep our stall fees as low as possible to make this market something Centurion can be proud of.

“We had one of our vendors who counted about 2 000 feet come through the market and many of our fresh food stalls sold out by the end of the day.”

She said that in the future the market was aiming to expand its non-food offerings, focusing on hand-made and home-made goods from within the community to provide a space for residents to showcase their crafts and build their businesses.

Already, more vendors were expected for the next edition of the market with applications for stalls filling up.

“The vendors were all so happy with the event. We appreciate the whole community for coming.”
