Far east to be without power for 8 hours

“This emergency work is necessitated by the need to carry out inevitable maintenance work at the substation.”

Tshwane residents in the far east can expect a power supply interruption of up to eight hours on Tuesday.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said this was due to scheduled maintenance that was to take place at the 132 KV Vulcan substation.

“According to Eskom, this emergency work is necessitated by the need to carry out inevitable maintenance work at the substation,” Mashigo added.

He further said, due to this plan, the power utility was forced to shut down the supply of electricity in the surrounding area during the set work.

According to Mashigo, the maintenance will affect Ekangala, Rethabiseng, Zithobeni, Bronkhorstspruit and Bronkhorstsbaai.

He urged residents to treat all electrical appliances with caution in the interest of safety, during the power interruption.

The power interruption follows the collapse of seven pylons and 132 power lines along the N4 freeway last Sunday resulting in a huge power outage affecting a large part of Pretoria east and north.

At the time, the city reportedly lost about 300 megawatts of power leaving 25 areas in the dark for 72 hours.

According to the metro, the collapse of the powerlines was due to vandalism.
