Man electrocuted after making contact with high-voltage cables

The man working on a billboard in Graham Road suffered critical burns and needed to be airlifted to hospital.

A man working on a billboard was electrocuted after falling and making contact with a high-voltage power line in the east of Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon.

According to local ward councillor Malcolm de Kerk, the incident happened around 15:45 on Graham Road near Vetland.

The road had to be closed which resulted in traffic delays in the area.

Paramedics said the road had to be closed so that a helicopter could land to evacuate the man.

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the man was working on a high-rise billboard when the accident happened.

“He made contact with high-voltage cables,” Van Reenen said.

“He suffered critical burns and a decision was made to airlift him through to a specialist facility for the definitive care that he required.”
