R6k fines issued to non-complying liquor outlets in Rietgat

“All these traders were fined an amount of R1 500 each mainly for non-compliance such as not displaying liquor certificates, using a bottle store licence for distribution and selling alcohol to away consumers while the establishment is for on-site consumption.”

Four local taverns were fined R1 500 each by the Rietgat police on Tuesday for non-compliance.

“Police officers and the national liquor board visited various liquor outlets during an operation where these taverns were found to be non-compliant,” said Rietgat police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka.

Non-compliance included not displaying liquor certificates, using a bottle store licence for distribution and selling alcohol to away consumers while the establishment is for on-site consumption.

Station commander Brigadier Molatelo Maphoto commended the officers for their work.

“Non-compliance at any liquor outlet within the Rietgat area will never happen during my time.

“I am happy and grateful for the tip-offs from the community. We appreciate the help and it makes our job easier.

“I would like to further encourage the community not to hesitate to call about any suspicious activity in the area,” said Maphoto.

The client service centre (071 675 6250) or station commander (082 455 8236) can be called for a swift response.
