Classic cars and antique stores at the Winter Family Festival

The cars on display ranged from American muscle cars to the high wheelers of the 1910s.

Despite the gloomy and chilly weather, Pretoria residents showed up in droves at this year’s Winter Family Festival at the Old Boys cricket ground in Groenkloof on Monday.

Lovers of classic cars were in for a delight as some of the most iconic cars lined up in the field for their viewing pleasure.

The cars on display ranged from American muscle cars to the high-wheelers of the 1910s.

The purring of the high-wheelers’ ancient engines from a bygone age could be heard around the cricket fields as customers were offered rides along the boundary ropes, with their proud owners behind the wheel.

Those eager to spend their April paychecks were spoiled for choice for shopping, with hundreds of stalls featuring a diverse range of items from secondhand books to antique record players and other unique artisanal products.

An on-site bar and beer tent served as a resting spot for those with tired feet.

Food stalls offered steaming plates of warm food for customers feeling the morning chill or those who perhaps skipped their breakfast.

Families told Rekord they were glad to spend quality time together looking at the beautiful cars on display.

“It’s amazing to see these beautiful cars and especially how happy it makes the children,” said Willem Bezuidenhout.
