Two garden refuse sites to be closed for two weeks
The Kruger Avenue and the Waltloo garden refuse sites will be closed down for a period of 14 days, said metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.

Tshwane municipality will close two of its refuse sites next week to rehabilitate them.
The Kruger Avenue and the Waltloo garden refuse sites will be closed down for 14 days, said metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
“The two sites form part of the six that are experiencing high volumes of garden waste.
“Residents and garden service businesses who make use of the two sites are advised to use alternative waste disposal facilities as per their permit approvals,” Mashigo said.
Alternative refuse sites that can be accessed in the meantime:
– Menlo Park garden site on 26th Avenue, Menlo Park
– Rooihuiskraal garden site, Rooihuiskraal Road
– Heatherley landfill site, Solomon Mahlangu Road, Nellmapius
– Soshanguve landfill site, Molefe Makinta Road, Soshanguve
He said the closure was due to the metro’s intentions to deal with the backlog at the two sites.
“The two weeks’ closure for maintenance is part of the city’s programme to prepare them for waste volumes following the implementation of the no permit, no entry principle which only allows valid waste transportation permit holders access to the city’s garden waste disposal sites.”
The permit applies only to those vehicles with 1 tonne or 1 000kg capacity and above.
The metro, however, reiterated that residents who were maintaining their gardens and ferrying waste that was less than 1 tonne once a week, were not required to apply for the permit.
