However, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) is predicting that temperatures will rise slightly with a 12°C low expected on Sunday.

Sunday will be clear and sunny with a maximum of 20°C.

Similar temperatures and conditions are expected going into the week with a high of 20°C and a low of 12°C on Monday.

Cold temperatures bring an increased risk of house fires, with the following tips from the SAPS for home heating:

– Keep your heater away from any flammable or combustible materials.

– Switch off the heater when nobody is home or at the office.

– When using a fuel-fired heater in an enclosed area, leave a window or door partially open to allow fresh air to enter.

– Never take a gas fire or kerosene heater into a confined space as the results could be deadly.

– Do not leave heating appliances unattended, especially around young children.

– Ensure that previously lit objects (like cigarette butts or coals) are completely “dead” before disposing of them.

– Make sure your home has no Illegal and faulty electric cables as these can also lead to the outbreak of a house fire.

– Lastly, they urge residents to ensure they have functioning fire extinguishers at home.

Keep in mind pets, infants and children, and the elderly may be more vulnerable to cold conditions. Ensure they are in a warm environment with plenty of blankets and warm clothing
