Local NGO donates food to 1000 Saulsville families

The organisation plans to grow to other areas and give out 5000 food hampers a week.

Soulbent Project donated food hampers to at least 1 000 families in Saulsville on Tuesday, May 16.

Soulbent founder Mashudu Makhado said that seeing kids from his community enjoy a meal kept him going.

“We saw the need to donate food after realising how Covid-19 left many families with no income, so seeing kids from our community enjoy the meal we proudly provide is motivation.”

Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink said Soulbent has been helpful in the city and it can make a greater impact if it grew to other areas.

“If we could have a Soulbent in Pretoria central, Mamelodi, Soshanguve and all around the metro we would greatly welcome it because we as a government need to admit we can’t do everything.

“So when NGOs such as Soulbent initiate such initiatives we need to jump at it,” Brink said.

SOULBENT FOUNDED IN 2015

Soulbent was founded in 2015 with just small donations to certain families in the community.

Makhado said prayers help Soulbent during trying times and when it is facing challenges like not reaching its yearly plan.

“When kids in the community come to us looking for food and we do not have it, that is a challenge to us to pray every morning with the team to overcome it,” he added.

Makhado said they plan to grow to other areas and give out 5 000 food hampers a week.

“We also wish to clean up rivers and illegal dumping sites and make sure we beautify the city of Tshwane into world-class renown.

“Donate food hampers to daycare centres like Pulset kid academy and schools and partner with other NGOs and stakeholders,” Makhando said.

He hoped the ministers of public works, water and sanitation, environmental affairs and national lotteries board, Gauteng premier, City of Tshwane, and the Gauteng department of agriculture will support the vision and mission of Soulbent.
