Police bid farewell to one of their own
“R25-million has been set aside to enhance police safety,” General Fannie Masemola announced after Constable Katlego Lefaka's death.
The management of Atteridgeville police station led by the national commissioner Fannie Masemola bade farewell to Constable Katlego Lefaka who died in the line of duty on May 7.
The funeral service for Lefaka was held at his home in Shamfana, Balobedu outside Giyani in Limpopo on Saturday morning.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Constable Lefaka was shot and wounded when he responded to a complaint at an unidentified address in Sinoville.
“He succumbed to his gunshot wound in hospital,” she said.
Three suspects have been arrested and already appeared in court on a charge of murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
According to Masemola, three more suspects are still at large.
In attendance was Brigadier Kushie Petersen, representing Tshwane police commissioner and Atteridgeville station commander Brigadier Moeti Rapitsi.
Constable Lefaka was just 30 years old and had served SAPS for four years and 66 days.
He was described as a dedicated, committed and community-orientated officer who always put the needs of his community before his own.
His members applauded him for wearing his badge courageously and performing his duties with passion.
Masemola said R25-million has been set aside to enhance police safety initiatives.
