Tshwane flying squad recovered two stolen bakkies worth almost R1m
The Toyota hilux bakkie was reported stolen in Brooklyn while the White Mahindra was reported stolen at Wonderboompoort.
Swift response by the Tshwane flying squad has led to the recovery of two stolen bakkies worth R900 000.
A police spokesperson, sergeant Alfred Legodi, said both cars were recovered at Soshanguve.
“The white Mahindra bakkie reported stolen at Wonderboompoort was found fitted with false GP number plates at block DD in Soshanguve via Rentrack.
“The grey Toyota Hilux bakkie reported stolen in Brooklyn was found at block xx next to Thornhill complex Soshanguve as well,” Legodi said.
He said no suspects were arrested.
Legodi said further probes will follow.
“Investigations will determine if the cars may have been used in any criminal activities by the suspects considering the fact that they were fitted with inaccurate plates.”
Local criminal record centre fingerprint experts were summoned to the scene to try to recover fingerprints of the suspects.
According to Legodi, both cars were taken to the Pretoria West Pound for further investigation.
Legodi said the squad and other law enforcement agencies will continue to wage a war against car smugglers and hijackers.
He urged the community to report any suspicious activity in their area.
