However, according to its owner Gerhard Scholtz this was not something new as between three and four thousand people attend it every Saturday, which arguably makes it one of the most popular markets in the Capital City.

“About three to four thousand people come to the market every Saturday,” Scholtz told Rekord, citing that they visit to do shopping and enjoy nature.

High attendance makes the event a success.

Sharing their secret to success, Scholtz said the 16-year-old event ensures that its vendors sell products of high quality, which is important to their customers.

“We sell quality products which include clothes, shoes, craft and delicious food.”

Emphasising the quality of the products, he added that 90 percent or more of their arts and crafts were manufactured by the artists who sell them themselves.

“We have various local handmade products as well as a variety of international ones.”

Hazel Food Market manager Jean-Pierre Verster said the market was unique in its nature.

“It is the only market in the country where music is not allowed,” Verster said.

He added that at the market people may walk a dog, experience nature, relax and enjoy shopping products of their choice.

Although the market has regular visitors, it also has new people who attend it every week, he said. The entrance to the market, which is described as an outdoor shopping centre, is free to everyone.
