Give back this weekend with local events
Take the kids to the theatre, tackle some puppy yoga, find a special way to spend your 67 minutes for Mandela Day and more this weekend.

Siel(lose)kunde, July 12 and 13

A new thriller-comedy-musical of terrifying proportions, Siel(lose)kunde combines the music of Meatloaf, Duran Duran, ABBA, Nina Simone, Gé Korsten, Stephen Sondheim, Nino Rota, Max Steiner and Rob Rokicki.
Sometimes it is necessary for a werewolf to talk about her feelings, and Doctor Lugosi is just the Zombie to listen. Maybe we learn that Vegan Vampires can be sensitive, and we can wonder together if maybe Frankie goes too far for love. Can one ever go too far for love or is everything just subjective?
Presented as part of the Nova Arts Festival for New, Young and Original Theater 2023, this show can be seen from 19:30 on Wednesday and Thursday at the Centurion Theatre.
Pamper a Pooch, July 15

Spend your Mandela Day 67 minutes pampering a pooch at the Wetnose Animal Rescue Centre.
Wetnose rescues are eagerly waiting for your help, as they deserve a good pampering and bath.
The event starts at 09:00 and there is no entrance fee.
The Dog Walk Park will be available for you to take a walk with your dog or one from Wetnose. Bring along a bag of dog food or blankets and old towels, dog shampoo or brushes to help spoil the rescues.
The Scullery Quintet, July 16

The Scullery Quintet presents Potluck in a new crossover ensemble that features a unique blend of the classic string quartet sound accompanied by a jazz rhythm section.
In 2022 the Scullery Quintet was nominated for Best Classical Performance at the US Woordfees.
Potluck is the title of their debut CD release that will be available at this special concert.
Listen to reimagined arrangements of works that range from Bach, Dvorák, Beethoven, Pat Metheny, Hugh Masekela and Kate Bush from 15:00 at Atterbury Theatre.
Puppy yoga, July 16

A yoga class with a twist, Woodrock Animal Rescue presents yoga with pups!
You’ll get to pat, play with and get to know some adorable four-legged friends and experience the calmness and relaxation of a yoga class. The puppies provide a fun and uplifting atmosphere, making it easier to get into a relaxed and calm state. Puppy Yoga is also great for reducing stress and improving mental health, as well as increasing physical fitness and flexibility. Plus, it’s hard to resist the charm of these adorable puppies crawling around you while you strike a pose!
The event takes place over two sessions from 09:00 to 10:00 and 10:30 to 11:30 at Woodrock Animal Rescue.
Irene Middle School, July 17 and 18

Established as a farm school in 1913, this school initially catered for children of farm and domestic workers in Centurion. The school now draws most of its learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Department of Education provides the learners two meals a day but the school wants to do something special for Mandela Day.
It will be taking donations on July 17 from 09:00 to 14:00, with a clean-up campaign on July 18 from 08:00.
The school needs to feed 600 children and is asking for packets of split peas, carrots, potatoes, onions and vegetable soup thickener packets.
Hennops Revival clean-up, July 18

Get out and make a difference this Mandela Day with the Hennops Revival Mandela Day clean-up.
The clean-up is from 09:00 to 13:00. Gumboots are not provided and volunteers may not enter the river, but organisers request they bring their own water bottles, closed shoes, appropriate clothing as well as sun and rain protection.
Volunteers will gather at 2010 Lenchen Ave South.
