Escape the cold snap at these Pretoria events

With the South African weather service warning of a cold weekend in store, a warming pick-me-up should be on the cards.

Nádine, July 20

After a stressful few weeks surrounding Derick Hougaard’s health, singer Nádine will soon be on stage nationwide with a new show, Kleure, in which she wants to take her fans on a colourful musical journey.

Kicking off the tour, the singer will be performing at Atterbury Theatre on Thursday from 19:00.

Songs from the past take on new colour – some of Nádine’s greatest hits, as well as local and international hit songs such as “True Colours” by Cindy Lauper, “Red Red Wine” by UB40 and “True Blue” by Madonna.

Also Tom Jones’ “Green Green Grass of Home” and Prince’s “Purple Rain” get a Nádine arrangement and even a touch of gold appears on Spandau Ballet’s “Gold”.

Skemer, July 20

Armand and Andrea Espach, the husband and wife duo behind Skemer, have been sharing their love story since 2017.

The pair fell in love after meeting on Facebook when they decided to combine their hearts and talents to make their dream a reality.

The duo from Harties combine country with pop, regularly touching the hearts of Pretoria audiences with their passion for what they do and the energy they draw from it.

Catch the performance at Jitterbugz in Centurion on Thursday at 20:00.

Centurion Boeremark, July 22

Ready. Set. Boere-mark your calendar! The Centurion Boeremark has grown from strength to strength since it launched the first market on April 15.

The market features local crafts and produce, perfect for the whole family.

The market runs every Saturday from 08:00 to 14:00 at Centurion Mall in the covered parking lot above Dis-Chem.

Germandt Geldenhuys, July 22

Germandt Geldenhuys has a long list of accolades including several awards and award nominations for his appearances in films, stage and TV shows over the years.

However, the talented artist says he considers himself first and foremost a singer.

He released his debut single “In Geval” last year.

Now he presents Sing! in support of the South African Animal Cancer Association at the Centurion Theatre from 15:00 on Saturday.

Centurion Dog Show, July 23

Bring your well-behaved fur baby for a fun dog show day to showcase your rescues, pavement specials, beauties, and beastly dogs.

The show features 12 categories to choose from, such as dogs with disabilities, scruffiest dog, waggiest tail, look-alike owners, best tricks and more.

The proceeds of the day will go to Border Collie Rescue Centurion and Thaba Tshwane Dogs.

The event will run from 09:00 to 16:00 at Shay’s events in Centurion.

Ruan du Toit, July 23

Ruan du Toit presents 30 Years and Counting with two shows on Sunday. The first starts at 15:00, followed by an evening show at 18:00 at Atterbury Theatre.

Du Toit, with his exceptional four-octave voice, charming stage personality and spontaneous energy, has made a deep mark in the music industry since 1993.

That is why he is celebrating with a unique performance of the past 30 years with 30 fan favourites.

He is bringing his full band and versatile genre of music, as he is known for, including performances of his own brand new songs.

Open Mic night with Baas de Beer, July 23

No matter if you’re a musical noob or an experienced muso looking for a space to test your new songs, or you just want to listen to the best up-and-coming talents from Pretoria, Baas de Beer’s Open Mic Night is the place to be.

Performers are given 20-30 minute slots to shoot their shot, with two mics and two instrument lines.

The Open Mic events run every Sunday at Wise Crax from 15:30 to 19:00.
