Krone concert a great hit on TikTok
More than 35 000 Afrikaans fans came together at Loftus to listen to more than 20 artists during the Krone concert where a legendary singer received an honorary award and a tribute to an iconic singer was made.
If Loftus Versfeld had a roof, the structure would have lifted during the goosebump rendering of the Krone concert on Saturday.
More than 35 000 fans of Afrikaans music flocked to the rugby field to take their seats to listen to medleys by artists including Appel, Barto Swiegers, Bernice West, Brendan Peyper, Christia Visser and evergreen Loftus favourite, Juanita du Plessis as well as the sensation of the evening, Elandré.
The concert had an unusual master of ceremonies in the form of an imitation of a so-called artificial intelligence bot, Kiki, which the announcers could make fun of. Kiki supposedly gathered information about the performing artist which she shared throughout the evening.

Veteran Krone concert singer Elizma Theron said there aren’t enough words to describe how special the performance was for her.
“Saturday night was special, unique and one of the many moments in your life that will stand out forever. I am so thankful to be part of every Krone and every year the amazing team of organisers surpass themselves.”
The audience could sing and dance along more than once. Especially during the ever-popular rendition of Kurt Darren’s Kaptein 35 000 people got to their feet to salute the caption on stage.
Darren was however the target of a few light quips when the AI bot told him he doesn’t have nearly enough TikTok followers compared to the younger artists.
The energised audience seized the opportunity to be part of a live TikTok broadcast with Darren and other singers to illustrate how one can increase one’s followers in one go.

The TikTok moment was the singing and dancing highlight of the evening for many a concertgoer. TikTok users liked the post on the social media platform more than 3 000 times to show their appreciation.
Colourful and dramatic outfits caught and kept the crowd’s attention, especially Leah’s canary yellow outfit with her feather jacket stood out in the night. She thanked the designer Carike Nel Designs.
“It was one of the best nights ever! Carike is my righthand and she made the most beautiful clothes,” said Leah.

Popular singer Rina Hugo received an honorary award for her contribution to Afrikaans music.
The artists also sang a medley of Hugo’s hits over the years and the highlight was when rapper, Snotkop, gave his unique rendition of her song Ek mis jou elke dag ’n bietjie meer.
They also paid tribute to late legend Theuns Jordaan with his song Soos bloed. A performance by Jordaan was shown during the tribute while the audience waved their cellphone flashlights around and sang along to the iconic Afrikaans song.
The Krone concert is presented by Select Musiek and Sony Music Entertainment.
Hendrik Spangenberg, media and link manager of Select Musiek, thanked every fan who attended the concert as well as every person that formed part of the production afterwards.
“We look forward to Krone 2024!” said Spangenberg.
