Residents advised to use water sparingly

Metro spokesperson warned residents that they risk “water-shedding”, as the reservoir that supplies Carina and Mooikloof reservoirs was low.

The City of Tshwane has warned residents to use water sparingly.

The metro said in a post on social media that the large Klapperkop reservoir supplying Carina and Mooikloof reservoirs was low.

“Our team is currently investigating the reason for the drop in levels.

“Affected residents are urged to use the resource sparingly while our teams monitor the inconsistent water flow.”

Meanwhile, water was restored to areas supplied by the Akasia and Elardus Park reservoirs on Friday, September 1.

Residents in Amandasig and Chantelle have also been experiencing ongoing water outages since Monday.

The metro confirmed that their investigations found that inadequate pressure from water utility Rand Water had resulted in water supply challenges.

On Thursday, residents around Moreleta Park also experienced water shortages.

Councillor Henning Viljoen told Rekord on Thursday evening that the Elardus Park reservoir water level was very low.

He said that it is fed by the large Garsfontein reservoir, but that load-shedding had affected the pumping to Elardus Park.

“We hope that there will be no interruptions. They will be pumping throughout the night.”

City of Tshwane spokesperson Selby Bokaba told Rekord that all areas of Tshwane were urged to use water sparingly.

“We usually notice higher consumption during spring and summer seasons,” he said.

“If communities don’t heed the call to use water sparingly, we run the risk of introducing ‘Water-shedding’ soon.”
