Eight-hour water supply interruption in parts of Tshwane

The City of Tshwane says there may be a supply interruption as teams conduct emergency water upgrades on Saturday.

The City of Tshwane will be conducting emergency upgrades to the water supply network in Philip Nel Park and Highveld.

In a statement, the metro municipality said its team of plumbers will install an 80mm water meter on a bulk pipeline in Muckleneuk along Justice Mahommed Street on Saturday.

This essential work is scheduled to last 8 hours from 08h00 until 16h00 and will lead to a water supply interruption in the following areas:

  • Groenkloof
  • Muckleneuk
  • Nieuw Muckleneuk

• Parts of Brooklyn (William, Mackenzie, Olivier, Nicolson and Marais Streets)

“The City apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the water supply interruption.”

The municipality furthermore urged residents to store enough water for household purposes during this period.

Residents are also urged to continue to make the following water-conservation measures part of their normal lifestyle:

  • Do not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
  • Do not wash vehicles with hosepipes.
  • Do not fill swimming pools.
  • Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.
  • Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.
  • Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
  • Collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.
  • Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.
  • Take a short shower rather than a bath.
  • Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.
  • Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.

“Residents are urged to continue using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets.”

The City also said where possible, water-saving devices should be installed.

Residents are further urged to report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents where water is wasted on the following numbers:

  • No water supply, burst water pipes, leaking meters or blocked street sewers 012 358 9999 or 080 1111 556
  • Illegal water connections 012 358 9060
  • Non-payment 012 345 8514
