Devoted metro officer dies after motorcycle crash in the north

Above and beyond his professional duties, Peter Duvenage touched countless lives through his selflessness and genuine care for others.

Messages of condolences and support have poured in following the tragic passing of a Tshwane metro police (TMPD) officer in an accident on Monday.

Sergeant Peter Duvenage passed away after his motorcycle crashed into a tree on the Sefako Makgatho Drive, north of Pretoria, according to his mother Lydia Nixon.

Nixon said the incident happened in the early hours of Monday, September 4.

Duvenage was known and loved for his great sense of humour, kind heart, being a man of God and an extremely outgoing personality.

He is survived by his wife, three children, as well as brother and mother.

Nixon said his loss is felt deeply by all who knew him, and his dedication to his family and community will be remembered for years to come.

She described Duvenage as a devoted man who loved God more than anything.

“I am glad that we got to experience his love, kindness and passion for serving the Lord as well as going out of his way to help people.”

Nixon told Rekord that Duvenage could not say no to anyone as his passion was to uplift everyone in the community.

“Funny enough is that on Sunday someone came to Peter to seek prayers and he did pray for that person.”

Anthony Maritz, Duvenage’s friend, said he was deeply hurt.

“He was a very kind person, hard-working and a man of his word.”

Maritz said God used Duvenage to reach out to people, reach out to broken souls and break difficult barriers.”

He said Duvenage was a tough cookie, who lived by his word and always wanted to be there for everyone in need.

Deputy chairperson of the Sinoville CPF Justin Faure said the whole community is grappling with profound grief.

He said Duvenage was not only a beloved member of the community but also a dedicated metro policeman, known by his call sign MP8.

“He tirelessly served and protected our community, displaying unwavering commitment and bravery in the face of adversity.”

Faure described Duvenage as a true hero, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who knew him.

“Above and beyond his professional duties, Peter touched countless lives through his selflessness and genuine care for others.”

Faure stated that Duvenage would go above and beyond to assist those in need, and his kindness knew no bounds.

“His reassuring presence provided comfort and security to our community, and his dedication to fighting crime made a lasting impact.

“Peter’s legacy will live on in the memories of those whose lives he touched. His unwavering spirit, compassion, and commitment to service will forever be an inspiration to us all,” Faure said.

 Duvenage was a role model and a pillar of strength

“The community have lost not only a remarkable friend, and family member but also a true role model and a pillar of strength.”

Faure offered condolences to Duvenage’s family.

“May the family find solace and strength in the cherished memories they shared with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate through this unimaginable loss.”

Faure added that Duvenage’s memory will be honoured by carrying on his legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to making “our community a safer place”.

“Let us remember him for the incredible impact he had on our lives and strive to emulate his remarkable qualities. he will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever live on in our hearts,” Faure concluded.

The TMPD had yet to provide comment by the time of publication.
