Movie night celebration to aid children’s home

It was a day of romance on screen, while movie-goers relaxed in their cars or outside, under the stars with a camp chair, that benefited a children’s home.

Families from around Pretoria came in their numbers to enjoy the drive-in movie night that will benefit a children’s home.

The drive-in movie night was held at Menlyn Retail Park at the parking lot next to Sparkling Auto Care to watch The Lost City.

Organisers of the drive-in movie, Caitlin de Jong and Mia Wilsenach said the movie night was in celebration of the centre’s 14th birthday celebration and fundraising event.

They said they chose The Lost City, which was in high demand, a movie about a reclusive romance novelist on a book tour with her cover model as they get swept up in a kidnapping attempt that lands them both in a cut-throat jungle adventure.

Caitlin de Jong said the event charged R150 per car with up to four occupants and started at 18:30.

She added that the money raised will be donated to Gracious Children’s home as part of giving back to the community.

“The fundraising event continued on Saturday with a live broadcast of Lekker FM, which featured a beautiful wall banner and encouraged shoppers to add their hand prints and signatures for only R10,” said Caitlin.

“The money raised will also go to Gracious Children’s home,” she said.

She added the drive-in movie night started last year on Father’s Day.

They described the drive-in movie night as a nice family-orientated experience where families could watch the movie inside their cars or sit outside with camp chairs.

The event was a success with stalls that sold popcorn, boerewors rolls, tacos, and other goodies.
