Two arrested at small retailer after shooting at police

When police arrived, the suspects refused to open for the officers, locked themselves inside the shop, and shot at the officers.

Two suspects have been arrested in Saulsville, a township near Atteridgeville, after shooting at police on October 12.

The duo faces charges of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and bribery, according to Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

Mahamba said they were arrested by the cable theft unit who were patrolling the Saulsville area when they were alerted of a person with a firearm at a store in the neighbourhood. He said police attended to the complaint and arrived at the tuck shop.

“This is when the suspects refused to open for the officers and locked themselves inside their shop. The suspects threatened the officers and fired in their direction. After an hour of negotiating, officers managed to get inside the shop and search.”

He said the two suspects were found with a firearm, four pieces of ammunition and empty cartridges, adding that “The suspects also tried to bribe the officers with R3 000.”
