Possibility of a thunderstorm in Pretoria tonight

While no severe hailstorm was anticipated in Gauteng, the SA Weather Service said that it was always a possibility when it came to thunderstorms.

Residents in Pretoria have been warned by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) to brace themselves for a possible thunderstorm this evening.

This after a warning for a severe hailstorm was doing the rounds on social media. Rekord could, however, not establish the authenticity of this warning.

SAWS forecaster Wayne Venter said they weren’t anticipating any severe hailstorms but normal showers were expected heading into the northern parts of Gauteng.

The SAWS explained that, although there was no severe hailstorm anticipated, residents must keep in mind that there was always the possibility of hail during a thunderstorm.

Venter said there was a chance of warm cloudy weather with isolated showers and thundershowers throughout the night.

He said the service will keep residents updated should there be any warning of threatening weather conditions.
Currently Pretoria is experiencing a maximum temperature of 28°C from a minimum of 17°C.

Venter said there was a 30% chance of rain this evening.

He said on Tuesday Pretoria will experience a forecasted minimum temperature of 20 °C and a maximum of 26°C.
“On Tuesday, it will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the afternoon.”
