There are many reasons why power outages occur in Pretoria. Here is how you can report a power outage in your area.

There are many reasons why power outages occur. These could include cable theft, weather conditions, overload, or equipment failure.

The City of Tshwane said it has standard operating procedures to ensure that services are rendered in a coordinated and accountable manner.

According to the City of Tshwane, it is therefore very important that power outages are reported through dedicated channels (call center and SMS lines).

What happens after you report an outage?

“Reporting power outages is essential to the consumer and the City. When you report an outage, it is recorded on the City’s outage management system.” the City said in a statement.

This is essential for consumers as they can trace the status of the outage through the reference number they receive when reporting.

“Also, consumers must report power outages in order for the control room to dispatch relevant teams to investigate and fix the cause of the outage.

“For safety purposes and accountability, technical teams cannot be dispatched to an outage or request materials for repairs at a storeroom without a reference number.”

To report power outages, consumers must contact our customer care centre on 012 358 9999 or SMS the word “power” followed by the account number to 082 612 0333 or 44676.

Remember planned maintenance can also cause a power outage, but the City usually communicates this in advance to residents and ward councillors.
