Bronkhorstspruit water outage being attended to, says metro

The metro has called on the affected communities around Bronkhorspruit to allow water tankers inside the area to supply them with water.

The Tshwane metro has sent municipal water tankers to Bronkhorstspruit because of the ongoing water shutdown in the area.

“The metro is committed to reinstating the water supply in impacted areas of Bronkhorstspruit,” said Themba Fosi, MMC for Utilities and Regional Operations and Coordination.

Fosi said the current water outage in the affected communities is being caused by a series of breakdowns at their water treatment plant.

The metro said the process of fixing the pipes will start by Friday, March 8, but might be delayed due to if pipes are not available.

“To expedite the recovery process, we have implemented measures to restrict water flow from reservoirs with adequate water supply to ensure the proper refilling of reservoirs with restricted water supply,” said Fosi.

The metro, meanwhile, called on community members to allow the deployed water tankers into the area.

This was to get water to children, women and other vulnerable people.

Fosi also asked residents to remain patient, as the metro aims to resolve the water supply issue.

“Additional security measures have been deployed to safeguard against any potential sabotage at the metro’s water facilities,” said Fosi.

Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink reassured the community that the metro’s number one priority was to get the pumps fixed at the purification plant.
