Music and robotics shine bright at immersive DSP Open Day
DSP commemorated their 125th birthday this year with an intercultural open day that involved an outreach musical concert, sports day and Robotics teams.

Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria (DSP) took the concept of an Open Day to new and exciting heights, expanding it to an immersive experience that pays tribute to the legacy of German influence across Pretoria. Parents and kids met with senior students and toured the grounds from the crèche to secondary schools.
The school is turning 125 years old this year.
Sports culture was on display as ball players and athletes demonstrated teamwork, discipline and the sporting spirit synonymous with German sports culture, as well as a musical outreach concert showing off the talent from DSP and partnering schools.

The concert included performances for the DSP orchestra, Nantes and Nellmapius primary schools choirs to name a few, infusing both German and South African musical traditions.
The Robotics Team (Creepy Crawly’s) were also a focal point of the day as they qualified to partake in the FTC World Championships in Houston, Texas for the second year running.
The team consisting of Christian Beyers (16, team leader and head builder), Andreas Rust (16, builder and programming trainee), Luka Schlüter (16, builder) and Christopher Moorcroft (13, head programmer and electronic department expert) are a group of bright, young and excited minds that come together in the name of robotics.
Mentor Karin Kabutz said their main goal is to expand and excel in the interest and growth of the world of Robotics and coding.
Moorcroft, the youngest member of the team, said he started reading at two and coding at the age of five. He joined the team after meeting Beyers. Recruiting from older members is common and important to keep the interest and success in Robotics.
