ATM bombed in Ga-Rankuwa, cash taken

The police have launched a manhunt for the six suspects.

An ATM was bombed in the early hours of Tuesday at the Sasol Delight filling station in Tsunami, Ga-Rankuwa unit 23 on March 12.

According to police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk, six armed men bombed the ATM around 02:40.

“Police were informed and when they arrived at the scene, the suspects had already left with an undisclosed amount of money.

The Nedbank ATM was damaged by explosives,” said Van Dyk.

He said the suspects cut a side fence to gain entry.

“It is alleged that the security guards were at the guard room when a man approached and pointed a firearm at them.

They were robbed of their cellphones then taken to the filling station.

“The suspects took boxes of cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of money from the till,” said Van Dyk.

No injury was reported and police have since launched a manhunt for the six suspects.

“The investigation continues and all leads are being followed up.”
