No contaminated water is causing typhoid flu says Tshwane

The metro says the public must be cautioned not to fall for this fake news, as no such notice was issued by the city.

The Tshwane metro has distanced itself from a bogus post doing the rounds suggesting that the water in Tshwane is contaminated and causes typhoid flu.

Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the city has taken note of a misleading notice making the rounds on social media and various applications, discouraging the drinking of tap water within the metro.

Mashigo said according to the false post, this declaration is from the Tshwane municipality and was issued on March 11.

He said the post states that the water is contaminated and causes typhoid flu.

The false message that came to the city’s attention lists the symptoms of typhoid flu, as well as precautionary measures.

He said the public is being cautioned not to fall for this fake news, as no such a notice has been issued by the city.

“We urge the public to always be vigilant of bogus messages,” said Mashigo.
