Security companies tackle thieves in east

A suspect in Lynnwood was chased on foot after being spotted cutting a copper cable pipe on a private property.

Complete Security Intelligence (CSI) apprehended a copper pipe thief in Lynnwood Glen on Friday, April 5, just minutes after the crime took place.

The suspect was caught and the stolen copper pipe recovered.

The suspect was allegedly arrested for the same crime two months ago.

According to Dana Bloem, spokesperson for CSI, the immediate response by their unarmed security personnel led to the arrest.

They spotted a man who had just finished cutting copper cables at a property on Jason Road.

“CSI security officer Lucas Dobolo was conducting a proactive virtual patrol when he saw the man on the property.

“The suspect jumped over the wall and fled the scene on foot,” said Bloem.

Bloem said Dobolo immediately notified the control room and backup was dispatched to the premises.

“He chased the suspect and apprehended him 200m from the premises.”

Bloem said the reaction units responded swiftly to assist the security officer.

The suspect was handed over to Brooklyn police and was charged with theft and trespassing.

In an unrelated incident, Bull Security apprehended a man in possession of stolen work equipment in Erasmusrand, Pretoria east.

According to spokesperson French Jooste, the control centre received a call from a concerned resident, informing them about a suspicious man who had walked past his house with a municipal dustbin with a number painted on it.

Jooste said on top of the dustbin was clothing and a jacket.

Bull Security units went to investigate. Upon arrival, their officers asked the man what was inside the dustbin and were told there was wood inside.

Jooste said the officer opened the dustbin and found suspected stolen items inside.

“After some questioning, the suspect admitted to stealing the dustbin and the contents inside.”

A grinder cutter industrial grade electric tool, electric cord extension, a hydraulic floor lifting trolley jack and high voltage booster cables were found.

Jooste said the officers detained the suspect.

“The home owner arrived and confirmed that the dustbin and items inside belonged to him and were stolen from his property.”

The suspect was handed over to Brooklyn police.

“Well done to a vigilant community member. We won’t tolerate any crime in our areas, big or small,” Jooste concluded.
