UPDATE: Nominations for Tshwane ward committees extended
Residents still have time to nominate ward committee members as the nomination deadline has been extended.

The Office of the Speaker and Independent Electoral Management Body (IEMB) have announced that the ward committee nomination period has been extended.
This comes after the nomination process was set to run from April 9 – 23.
Chairperson of the Section 79 electoral committee Dana Wannenburg said the nomination process would now be extended until May 3.
Wannenburg said the extension would give residents and interested stakeholders enough time to nominate candidates who they believe would prioritise the needs of their respective wards and ensure service delivery.
“Nominations can be made by any registered voter within the ward, provided they demonstrate a vested interest in the affairs of the ward in which they reside,” he said.
Wannenburg added that the ward committees’ role is to promote community participation and inform the municipality of the needs of residents.
“Ward committees are important to help residents hold those entrusted with delivering services accountable,” he said.
Wannenburg said that, as per the by-law, the criteria for ward committee membership are as follows:
– Any South African citizen entitled to vote in a municipal election must be registered as a voter on the voters’ roll.
– The individual must comply with the criteria for election as set out in the declaration in Annexure 2 of the by-law.
– The candidate must demonstrate a real interest in the affairs of the ward they live in or the ward they wish to be elected to.
