Desperate owner offers R3 000 reward for his dog
"He's been with me through the best and worst of times, and his love and devotion are unwavering," says Dricus Uys.
A Pretoria east dog owner is offering a R3 000 reward to anyone who can help find his dog that went missing in Sinoville on January 20.
Dricus Uys said his 13-year-old Yorkie, Rufus, went out of the house in a split second without him seeing him.
“My only explanation is that he saw a cat, as he’s always chasing cats that might come into the yard over the fence,” he said.
Uys said that immediately after realising that Rufus was not with him, he went up and down the street, calling and whistling for him, as he has a specific whistle that Rufus always reacts to.
“I went up and down the street I live on and asked security guards at various businesses if they had seen him as they were sitting outside the properties.”
He said that after canvassing the whole neighbourhood as well as the adjacent neighbourhoods, driving up and down, he called for him again without any success.

According to Uys, he searched the whole of Saturday night as well as the whole of Sunday, January 21, with friends joining in on the search.
He said he posted on numerous Facebook pages and WhatsApp groups, hoping to get some feedback from people.
“The latest news I’ve received is via an animal communicator, who said that Rufus is lying under a dining room chair and cannot go out,” he said.
He said that the animal communicator also stated that there are no children in the house where Rufus is.
“From this, I believe that he is with elderly people who are most likely not on social media,” he said.
Uys explained that the past three months have been an absolute emotional roller coaster ride.

He said he does daily searches of the area and checks Facebook every 30 minutes, day and night, to see if someone has picked him up.
“Every Saturday I visit the Waltloo SPCA with Wollies and One Stop Animal Rescue to check on dogs that were brought in during the week,” he said.
Uys said they are also convinced that someone has Rufus in their possession.
He added that 200 posters have been put up in the area and 1 000 flyers distributed with the help of Soshanguve Animal Shelter and Educentre.
“He’s been with me through the best and worst of times, and his love and devotion are unwavering. He has always been there, and that is what got me through the most difficult of times,” he said.
Uys can be contacted directly or via WhatsApp at 063 961 5068.
