Killers still at large as DJ Mashata laid to rest

Mashata’s passing has left many in grief.

Police were still investigating the killing of Pretoria MC and DJ Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, known as Mashata, as he was laid to rest on Sunday.

Friends and family gathered at the Akasia community hall, north of Pretoria to cherish and bid the soul DJ who was gunned down in a hail of bullets seven days before farewell.

Mashata was laid to rest at the Zandfontein cemetery on April 28.

The 46-year-old’s untimely death has left an enormous void in the hearts of many people in the entertainment industry.

Mashata was a renowned South African soul & RnB DJ, student advisor to the Tshwane University of Technology, and a home stadium announcer for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Tebogo Moagi, Mashata’s aunt shared a heartfelt message by sisiter Rebbeca Mabuse (Mashata’s mother) during the emotional funeral service.

“To my beloved son, thank you for the 46 years you gave me as your mother.

Your departure has left me in pain, but I’m determined to fulfill the plans we made together.

Rest in peace, my son,” said Moagi.

Mamelodi Sundowns supporters chairperson Mpho Mothupi expressed his deep sorrow and portrayed Mashata as an amazing human being.

“His passing has left a huge void not only in my heart but in everyone close to him and his fans.

He was more than a colleague, and his influence will always be remembered,” said Mothupi.

Family representative Valencia Bambo said Mashata was a compassionate soul and his music mended broken hearts.

Mashata was gunned down in the early hours of April 21 in Soshanguve Block GG while returning from a gig at Epozini Lifestyle and died in Akasia hospital.

It is alleged that two men opened fire at the victims as they drove near Tshwane University of Technology Soshanguve around 01:00.

Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi, Tshwane deputy mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya, and Gauteng MEC for sports, arts & culture and recreation Morakane Mosupyoe paid their respects to the beloved soul DJ.

The service was broadcast live on Youtube.
