Elderly woman held at gunpoint, tied up and robbed
The Centurion retirement village has beefed up security after a resident was robbed in her home.

A woman in her 80s was left traumatised after she was tied up in a house robbery at Heuwelsig Retirement Village in Clifton Avenue, Die Hoewes on Tuesday, April 30.
Spokesperson for Centurion-based home Lucia Kok said the woman was very traumatised but was otherwise unharmed in the incident.
Police said the woman reported that she fell asleep in her lounge while watching TV.
After midnight she was awoken by two men who entered her home, one armed with a pistol.
She said one asked her where she kept her panic button, which was in the kitchen, while the other held her at gunpoint.
The men tied her hands and feet up with strips of linen.
She said they asked her for the keys to her safe, from which they removed her jewellery.
She said they also took her TV and other electrical equipment, and food from her grocery cupboard and fridge.
Kok said after the men had left, the woman managed to get to her neighbour for assistance.
She said the home employs a security company which controls access to the premises and patrols the grounds.
She said security has been beefed up since, and movement beams have been installed.
She said she suspected the men crawled under the perimeter fence to gain entry.
She said the suspected entry point has now been closed up with bricks.
She said the home has reported to Tshwane that the streetlights outside its premises are not working numerous times.
“We have lights in the village but it is dark around the perimeter.”
Kok said the incident worried the residents.
Tshwane SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said a case of house robbery had been opened.
“It seems the suspects gained entry through the open window into the lounge. There was no forced entry,” he said.
The suspects escaped on foot with the items of an unknown value.
