WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM THOSE IN POWER ?

Maria Schoeman

“I would like to see those in power providing better service to poor people. We would like an honest government with no loadshedding, crime and roads with no potholes.”

Prince Ndlovu

“I actually do not have any hope that any of those people in power can change anything. The only thing that they do is to exploit us. I just graduated from university and I know that I will be adding to the statistics of high rate of unemployment in our country.”

Joseph Mabunda

“I would like those in power to stop overlooking us people who live in informal settlements. The government does not care about us. We can go days and months without electricity and water with no communication from our government. Where I stay there’s no water and no one has come to tell us the reason behind the water outage.”

Chekai Adonis

“I would like those in power to change the education system and improve the unemployment rate. Reason being that unemployment and education play a big role in economic growth. By improving the state of our education we will be able to get jobs. Nowadays you have to be educated to get a well-paying job but those jobs are also scarce.”

Merriame Adams

Merriame Adams
“I would like those in power to deal with the issue of power outages. They need a permanent solution to power outages. Our electrical appliances are damaged because of the on and off electricity.”

Given Mokoena

“What I expect from those in power is job creation. Homeless people are packed here at Union Buildings with no jobs. People are now criminals and some are now taking drugs because of the stress that comes with being unemployed. We wake up every day hoping for change but nothing happens. I hope the government that will be in power brings good change in our country.”

WHAT DIFFERENCE WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN YOUR COMMUNITY /SOUTH A FRICA AFTER VOTING?

Unathi Dlamini

Unathi Dlamini
“I would like those in power to improve health care services especially because this is a basic necessity for us. Their health care workers must stop misdiagnosing patients. People are dying and getting sicker because of being misdiagnosed.”

Metja Motena

“The change I want is to see is youth being employed, roads getting fixed and the government building more schools. Where I live, kids are struggling to find a school to go to, some had to be enrolled in schools that are very far from home. I would also like to see those in power creating dumpsites for people in my area. People dump trash next to our gate.”

Doreen Davids

Doreen Davids: “One major change that I would like to see in our communities, is awareness about crime and ways to prevent it. People in power must help us bring peace and order to our communities.”

Sello Matebane

“It will be great if those in power help us get economic activity back to the townships. We as South Africans in the townships cannot have spaza shops anymore because the foreigners have taken over. Whoever is going to win the elections must fix the electricity issue that we are currently facing and also improve safety. They should come up with ways and measures to combat crime in townships. Also we are now moving from townships to the suburbs because we no longer feel safe ekasi. We need safety and security in townships.”
