A fire gutted parts of a north of a Pretoria mall on Monday, May 27, leaving stores charred.

According to the Tshwane Emergency Services Department (EMS), there were luckily no reports of fatalities or serious injuries as firefighters and other emergency responders attended to the incident at Jubilee Mall in Hammanskraal.

Tshwane EMS spokesperson Deputy Chief Charles Mabaso said the fire broke out at one of the stores in the mall, however, the details of what led to the fire were under forensic scrutiny.

“The emergency call centre received a call around 11:26, where it was reported that a fire had broken out at an Ackermans store.

“Firefighters immediately started their firefighting operations,” said Mabaso.

Mabaso said in containing the fire, the fighters managed to prevent its possible spread to stores like PEP.

“Firefighters then started with the extinguishment of spot fires by taking out the burnt fire load and conducted ventilation to rid the building of excess smoke.

“The fire was contained and subsequently extinguished.”

Mabaso said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the extent of the damage has not yet been quantified.
