Wollies celebrates 11th anniversary
Residents painted kennels as part of the animal shelter’s birthday celebration.
Wollies Animal Shelter celebrated 11 years of being a home for neglected and abused animals on Saturday, May 25.
Residents gathered at the shelter to paint kennels as part of the birthday celebration.
According to the founder of Wollies, Cilla Trexla, the shelter has taken care of thousands of animals over the years and aims to continue to do so.
The non-profit organisation opened its doors in 2013 with the promotion of sterilisation of abandoned animals and those owned by disadvantaged people at an affordable price.
Trexla said the initial plan of the shelter was to rescue and rehabilitate unwanted, abused and neglected animals.
“The shelter had around 160 dogs and 80 cats on its first-year birthday and has over a thousand cats and dogs currently.”
She said residents came out in their numbers to paint the kennels and had fun with the animals.
Residents walked the dogs and visited the shelter’s astonishing cattery to cuddle and spoil the cats.
“I would like to thank everyone who spared their day and came to celebrate with us.
“The pets were very delighted to have every one of you who attended the event,” said Trexler.
