Thousands celebrate Italian Republic Day in Pretoria
The event hosted by the Pretoria Italian Club showcased the best of Italian cuisine, wine, imported Italian clothing, accessories, and other Italian products for sale, as well as an impressive display of hundreds of Italian motorcars and bikes.
Over 7 000 people attended the annual Italian Republic Day festival on Saturday.
The event was held at the Italian Club Pretoria in Groenkloof and attended by the Italian Ambassador, Alberto Vecchi, accompanied by the Italian Military Attaché.
One of the organisers, Roberto Viola, said the festival was open to the public, and families came in their numbers to enjoy a day packed full of the true taste of Italy.
“The event hosted by the Pretoria Italian Club showcased the best of Italian cuisine, wine, imported Italian clothing, accessories, and other Italian products on sale, as well as an impressive display of hundreds of Italian motorcars and bikes – basically everything Italian for anyone who enjoys La Dolce Vita,” said Roberto.
He said anyone into roaring big engines, the Ferrari Owners’ Club of South Africa showcased over 100 Ferraris at the annual Ferrari concours event at the festival.
“There was authentic Italian food being sold by 20 guest food vendors by authentic Italian restaurants from Johannesburg and Pretoria, including fashion, leather goods, shoes, and toys,” he added.
Other Italian car clubs that were present were SEFAC (Ferrari Owners Club), Lamborghini Club, Alfa Club, Maserati Club, and Abarth Club, including the Italian bike clubs Vespa, Ducati, and the Italian Motorcycle Club.
The festival was from 09:00 to 17:00.
