Akasia to elect new CPF committee to combat crime

Akasia in the north of Pretoria is set to elect its new community policing forum (CPF) to work together with the police and community to combat crime.

This comes after the community has raised concerns over the duties carried out by the CPF, saying it is no longer visible in the area.

Akasia has been plagued by a series of crimes ranging from robberies at residential and non-residential properties to hijacks and tyre-spiking.

Crimes including common robbery, robbery with aggravating circumstances and common assault recently affected the R80 Mabopane Highway.

According to the interim deputy chairperson Paulina Seboloki, the executive committee has been dissolved and a new election date for the new committee will be communicated in due course.

“The interim committee is still operating but we will select a new one not later than June 30 unless something comes up,” said Seboloki.

The new CPF will form a team that will foster a safer and more united community involvement with police.

In the most recent attack in the Akasia policing precinct, police recovered a stolen vehicle in The Orchards.

“The fundamental focus of the new committee will be on increasing community safety with positive engagement from the police and the community,” she said.

The new members will get training opportunities, and partnerships with local organisations to eradicate crime in the area.

The group is set to serve the community with all the necessary skills and resources to improve safety and security.
