Police recover stolen vehicle near Groblersdal

A 25-year-old man that was driving the stolen car will appear in court shortly

The police arrested a male suspect who was found to be driving a silver VW Polo reported missing at Cullinan police station in February.

Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said police apprehended the suspect during a crime prevention operation in the Rakgoadi policing area near Motetema in the Sekhukhune District on Thursday, June 6.

Ledwaba said the 25-year-old suspect was driving a suspicious silver VW Polo without registration numbers to the local filling station when he was followed by police.

“Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen at Cullinan police station in February,” said Ledwaba.

He said the driver claimed that he purchased the car from a certain man in Pretoria.

Ledwaba stated that the accused is currently in police custody and will appear in the Motetema Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 10 on a charge of possession of presumed stolen property.

He said police are still investigating the matter.

“The provincial police commissioner in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe hailed the members for being ever alert, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the vehicle,” Ledwaba said.
