26 firefighters deployed, one left injured and parts of Pretoria West without power
The fire broke out after 21:00 leading to one person receiving treatment at Unitas Hospital.
A fire that ravaged a section of a decommissioned power station in Pretoria West on June 7 has left a large area of Proclamation Hill without power on the weekend.
The Tshwane Metro had to dispatch ten firefighting vehicles and 26 firefighters to fight the fire which resulted in one firefighter sustaining minor injuries.
Tshwane said the substation was damaged as a result of fire in the switch gear room which started late last night and affected the substation that provides parts of Pretoria West with electricity.

Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Deputy chief Thabo Charles Mabaso said the fire broke out in a switch gear room after 21:00 on June 7, 2024.
“The Tshwane Emergency Services Department arrived on the scene to find the switch gear room covered in a blaze of fire.”
“A technician issued a safety work permit and firefighters immediately started with firefighting operations and exposure protection of an adjacent building of the old decommissioned power station.”

Mabaso said as fire operations began, the switch gear room was found to have four switch components with oil that was burning intensely.
“The switch gear room roof collapsed and parts of the walls also collapsed because of the intense heat and an explosion that occurred inside the burning switch gear room.”
“The fire was contained to the switch gear room and subsequently extinguished.”
He said technicians were conducting an assessment on the extent of the damage.
Mabaso said the fire operations resulted in a firefighter sustaining injuries, when a fire hose nozzle hit her in the face shield of her helmet.
“She was treated at Unitas Hospital and immediately discharged.”
“The cause of the fire has not been determined.”
