Second trip at Njala substation this week, leaves large parts of Pretoria powerless

The estimated times of repairs is currently unknown at this stage.

For the second time in one week, a large-scale power outage has hit several parts of Pretoria.

According to reports the trip is believed to be from the 132kV Njala in feed-substation.

Ward 82 councillor Siobhan Muller said the Njala substation has tripped leaving thousands of homes and businesses without power.

“This is the second time this week,” Muller said.

On Tuesday (July 9) the 132kV trip at Njala Scientia lines and Waltloo affected areas such as Highlands, Lynnwood, Villieria, Koedoespoort, Mamelodi and The Willows.

Muller said she has no information yet on why or the full impact of this trip.

“After a trip like this there are always secondary trips that can only be identified once power is restored,” she said.

She said secondary trips are on individual homes with a trip at the pole or a prepaid meter which goes over to fault mode, others are streets or entire areas that go down.

She said the estimated times of repairs are currently unknown.

“Teams have been dispatched to investigate and feedback will be provided as information becomes available.”
