More east bars and nightclubs shut down for non-compliance

During the operation, the teams identified several violations, including inadequate fire safety measures, noise pollution and the absence of necessary permits.

Several nightclubs and businesses in Menlo Park and Hatfield, east of Pretoria were temporarily closed and fined for non-compliance this past weekend.

This was as the Tshwane Metro Police (TMPD) continued its operation to root out non-compliance from the metro.

Spokesperson senior superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the continuous operations had the purpose of combating crime and ensuring compliance with by-laws, traffic rules, and regulations.

During the operation, the teams identified several violations, including inadequate fire safety measures, noise pollution, and the absence of necessary permits.

Mahamba said on Friday, July 26 in Menlo Park, four businesses were inspected, and only one had a valid business licence.

Four contravention notices were issued.

“Two businesses were closed immediately for non-compliance and home affairs officers checked the citizenship status of three employees.”

Mahamba said the operation included TMPD, the Department of Health, fire safety, local economic development, building control and home affairs officials.

He said in the student-populated area of Hatfield, three businesses were inspected, two were closed down for non-compliance with fire safety regulations and six were fined.

Mahamba said on Friday, 40 motorists were tested for alcohol intake.

“Seven drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Three people were arrested for public drinking and 80 Aarto infringement fines were issued.”

Mahamba said the TMPD Region 6 officers also issued 20 infringement fines.

“Overload control unit members and taxi unit members conducted an operation in Kirkney at Vanderhoff Road that resulted in the issuing of 105 traffic infringement fines.”
