Wollies gets generous pet food donation
A woman decided to donate to the shelter after she won a Virseker competition last year.
The Wollies Animal Shelter in Pretoria North welcomed the generous donation of 21 bags of dog and cat food recently.
The animals at the shelter were in for an enormous surprise when the insurance company Virseker arrived to fulfil its promise.
At the end of last year, Hannelie Minnaar of Doornpoort won R25 000 in a Virseker and Afrikaans Groot scratch-and-win competition and a further R15 000 to donate to a charity of her choice.

She donated that prize to the organisation close to her heart, Wollies.
“When I was told that I won and I had to donate to any charity of my choice, without any hesitation or doubt, Wollies came to my mind.
“I am an animal lover and I have three rescue dogs and a cat and I knew the organisation needed food for the animals,” said Minnaar.
Minnaar said she was drawn closer to Wollies because of the work it does.
“They do such wonderful work by looking after all these animals that people just can’t look after anymore and those animals didn’t ask to be there,” she said.
Wollies manager Cilla Trexla said members of the public can further help Wollies by adopting some of the pets and giving them a loving home.
“We accept this donation and surely, it will make a significant difference in the pets’ daily nutrition.
“We appreciate Minnaar and Virseker for the amazing work they have done for us and we are determined to continue receiving donations from the public,” said Trexla.

Virseker’s marketing manager Mone Bothma said the company is set to continue making a difference in the community of the north.
“Seeing how much a bag of dog food costs is something that touched us and made us realise that Wollies is doing its best to keep these animals full and healthy.
“For an establishment like Wollies, food is something they need daily,” said Bothma.
