Suspected Centurion robbers to appear in court
The third suspect managed to escape on foot when the vehicle was stopped after a high-speed chase.
Two men allegedly involved in a string of armed robberies in the Centurion area are due to appear in the Pretoria Central Magistrate’s Court today, according to police.
This comes after police working together with security companies apprehended the two men after a high-speed chase on Thursday, August 1.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the two were spotted in Wierdapark by Monitor Net officers.
He added that when the officers tried to approach the suspect’s vehicle, they sped off.
“The suspects fled and in the process also damaged a Monitor Net vehicle as they tried to ram the response officer,” said Van Dyk.
Van Dyk said a high-speed chase then ensued.
He added that the vehicle was stopped at a shopping centre in Centurion after advanced tactical measures were taken.
“Two suspects were detained and one managed to escape,” said Van Dyk.
He said six cellphones were retrieved.
“The two men will be appearing in court on Friday,” he said.
