Local music producer and guitarist goes solo
CYFTB born in Mamelodi West is a producer, instrumentalist. His hit song ‘Left and Right’ was played for three weeks on Channel O’s Top 10 SA Dance Music.
After years of playing instruments and producing music for others, Skhumbuzo Malope (31), known as CYFTB from Stoffel Park, Mamelodi East, has finally decided to go solo.
He will launch his first EP album, Lord of the Melody, at Moloto Meeting Place on August 17.
He said the five-track album took him about 11 months to complete. It features the best of the best in the music industry, including the likes of Mpho Nkosi (Wizzy), who specialises in hip-hop and co-produced some of the songs from the EP and mastered the vocals.
CYFTB born in Mamelodi West is a producer and instrumentalist. He is known as the man behind the hit song “Left and Right”, on which he worked with Toxic Music and it was played on Channel O’s Top 10 SA Dance Music for three weeks.
The EP album has five different music genres, and he decided to produce all five different songs while he could.
“In the album, there is Afro-pop music, Afro-soul, hip-hop and broken piano music,” he said.
CYFTB’s passion for music and playing instruments started in 2009 in church, where his mother was also singing.
He said he was given an opportunity to study music at the church. However, things did not go as planned, and he ended up teaching himself to play instrumental music when he joined the Sweet Play band.
The band landed big gigs, performing at weddings, funerals and clubs.
CYFTB can play almost every musical instrument, from bass guitar to lead guitar to piano.
As part of giving back to his community, CYFTB teaches children from the age of 11 how to play different instruments.
He said some children are brought to him by his local church, and he also teaches youth who want to specialise in certain musical instruments to further their music careers.
His message to the youth of Mamelodi is to stay away from drugs and avoid peer pressure from friends.
He said Mamelodi has a lot of talent, and the youth need to be patient and pray to God to help them find their hidden talents.
