Police arrest suspects linked to north murder cases, robberies and kidnapping

The task team received information about the suspect’s whereabouts. A takedown operation led to the arrest of one suspect who revealed his accomplice’s address.

Soshanguve police on August 8 apprehended two suspects believed to be the primary perpetrators in a series of robberies, and kidnappings.

One of the two is suspected of being involved in online and house robberies and also of being linked to a murder case. He was nabbed during a police operation in the early hours of Thursday.

The arrest was the result of a well-coordinated operation by the stabilisation task team, which had received actionable intelligence regarding the suspect’s whereabouts.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said following a thorough verification process, the team planned a tactical takedown operation targeting a residence in a Soshanguve estate.

“The operation, executed with precision, led to the successful identification and arrest of the suspect, who now faces multiple charges.

“The investigation is ongoing to determine if the suspect is connected to other unsolved crimes,” said Van Dyk.

He said in a related incident, the stabilisation task team demonstrated its effectiveness in addressing violent crime and responded to a report of a hijacking in Mabopane, Block A, where gunfire had been exchanged.

“The police swiftly joined the pursuit, leading to the arrest of a suspect found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“This individual is also linked to a murder case from last month.”

He said efforts to arrest another suspect who managed to evade capture, are underway with a dedicated track and trace team actively searching.

“The stabilisation team’s achievements continued as they acted on intelligence regarding suspects involved in recent armed robberies.”

With valuable assistance from the community, the police tracked and arrested one suspect. During interrogation, the suspect revealed the location of an accomplice.

“A subsequent operation led to the arrest of the second suspect at his residence.”

Van Dyk said both individuals are being held in custody and are facing charges related to armed robbery.
