Acting on intelligence, the police also recovered five unlicensed firearms.

Police servicing Rietgat, north of Pretoria made substantial progress on July 31 in their efforts to combat crime in the area.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan Van Dyk, the operation began with a focused investigation into a suspect involved in a house robbery.

“Acting on valuable intelligence, Rietgat SAPS officers identified a house in Block Y, Soshanguve, as a key location.”

The team executed a tactical operation, surrounding and entering the residence.

“Inside, they apprehended an individual who matched the description of the robbery suspect,” said Van Dyk.

Van Dyk said during interrogation, the suspect provided crucial information about additional locations where other individuals with unlicensed firearms could be found.

“Acting on this intelligence, police proceeded to four additional addresses and this led to the arrest of five more suspects and the recovery of four unlicensed firearms.”

The operation took another turn when officers en route to the police station noticed a man behaving suspiciously.

“Upon a thorough search, police discovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in his possession.”

He said the man was immediately arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

“The suspects are now in custody as investigations continue to determine if they are linked to other criminal activities.

“The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to establish whether they have been used in any other crime,” he said.

The police encourage anyone with information related to criminal activities or unlicensed firearms to come forward and assist the ongoing effort to ensure a safer environment for all residents.
