Three suspects arrested and firearms seized in Erasmia robbery

The suspects now face multiple charges, including armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of stolen property.

The Erasmia police recovered two firearms and arrested three suspects involved in an armed robbery on Scheiverberg Road, Vlakplaas, Lillian in the West of Pretoria on September 6.

Police spokesperson Johan van Dyk said the incident unfolded around 13:00 when officers were on routine patrol.

He said the officers were alerted to an ongoing armed robbery.

“Swiftly responding to the call, they were soon supported by the Atteridgeville SAPS and the South African Police Service Airwing, which provided crucial aerial assistance.”

“The Airwing unit’s intervention proved pivotal as they successfully apprehended two suspects,” said Van Dyk.

He said during the operation, authorities learned that a third suspect had managed to flee the scene, and a tactical search ensued, resulting in the capture of the final suspect.

“At the crime scene, police recovered two firearms. One of these weapons was identified as a replica, while the other is currently undergoing ballistic testing to ascertain whether it has been used in previous criminal activities.”
